Educational Fishery Policies
Kenaitze Indian Tribe's Educational Fishery Policy
- A Permit Holder for the Kenaitze Indian Tribe's Educational Fishery must be 18 years of age or older and must be a Tribal Member of Kenaitze Indian Tribe or Salamatof Tribal Council and domiciled on the Kenai Peninsula. A Permit Holder must be present at the site of the fishery at all times while the net is fishing.
- Permit Holders must provide proof of Tribal Membership (Tribal Membership Card) to hold the Educational Fishery Permit.
- Tribal Members may schedule two tides per month (one month at a time). If your quota is reached you must then cancel your remaining fishing times.
- The quota for Red Salmon is 25 Reds per head of household and 10 for each dependent living in your home.
- The Tribe's King Salmon quota is 300 Kings. Elders receive King Salmon first, and then one King per head of household is allowed.
- An Activity Report Form must be completed by the permit holder for each educational activity conducted at the Kenaitze Indian Tribe's Educational Fishery. Digital photos may be emailed to lblizzard@kenaitze.org to be included in our annual report to the Alaska Department of Fish and Game. Photos that are donated will become property of Kenaitze Indian Tribe. This form is required for all Educational Activities conducted at the Tribal Fishery.
- The Permit Holder must complete and sign a Daily Fish Report detailing the numbers of fish caught and the names of the persons receiving the fish.
- A proxy form will be completed and signed if you are fishing for a Tribal Member who is unable to fish the net due to age or disability.
- Clean up Educational Fishery site after use:
- Pick up your trash
- Clean up your fish scraps
- Clean the debris out of the net
- Rinse your net and hang it on the net rack when you are through fishing
- Hose down fish cleaning area
- Fish Distribution:
- After our Elders have received King Salmon, one King per head of household
- 25 Reds per head of household and 10 per dependent
- Quota of Silvers depends upon availability of Silvers
- Use of Food Sealer:
- Donations appreciated to help defray the cost of sealer bags
- Clean the sealer and sealer room thoroughly with bleach when finished
- Protect Kenaitze Tribal Property:
- Permit holders will help to police our Educational Fishery sites, e.g. visitors are welcome at our fishery but use of drugs or alcohol will not be permitted on Kenaitze Property
- Littering will not be permitted
- Campfires must be completely out when you leave the fishery site
- Use of Pavilion:
- Overnight camping is not allowed in the pavilion. This facility is for families to share while they are fishing the net
